Home Reading

Please can you read as often as possible with your child. Just 5 or 10 minutes everyday will make a big difference to their fluency and understanding of texts. When you have read with them, make a note in their Reading Record so that we can keep a track in school.

Now that books are getting longer and children are building their fluency in reading, it is also important to gain a better understanding of the book that they are reading. You can ask them different questions about the book, some have example questions at the back. You could also get them to do some activities based around what they have read. They could do a character description. They could draw a picture of the character or the setting and use adjectives to describe them. They might want to write a book review to let other children know whether they recommend it or not. All these things will help children to really think deeper into a story. I have put some examples below. If you have any questions then please don't hesitate to email me and ask. We will also be running some reading competitions so look out for those!

Thanks for your support, Mr Blackburn
