In Mellor St Mary CE Primary School we follow the Statutory Framework for the Early Years and Foundation Stage issued by the DFE. We also use 'Development Matters' to support our planning, teaching, observing and learning outcomes in EYFS on a day to day basis.
There are seven areas of learning and development that must shape educational programmes in early years settings.
All areas of learning and development are important and inter-connected. Computing and technological devices are used to supporting the learning across all these areas so that all pupils are able to use and know about technology in today's world. Through online safety sessions (also linked to PSHE), children begin to know how to stay safe in real and virtual world settings.
Three areas are particularly important for building a foundation for igniting children’s curiosity and enthusiasm for computing / technology learning, forming relationships and thriving. These are the prime areas:
• communication and language
• physical development
• personal, social and emotional development
The development of pupils computing knowledge and skills are also delivered through four specific areas, through which the three prime areas are strengthened and applied.
The specific areas are:
• literacy
• mathematics
• understanding the world
• expressive arts and design
